Solar panels
Solar panels for Wirral homes
Panels sized from your bills and your roof, installed under MCS certification so you can be paid for what you export.
Sizing
The right size, not the biggest
Panels only save money when you use or export what they make. We start from a recent bill and when you're at home, then size the array to match. A typical 3-bed home on the Wirral lands around 3.5 to 5 kW, roughly 8 to 12 panels, but we'll design to your numbers.
Roofs facing anywhere from east through south to west work. We'll be honest about north-facing roofs and shade from trees or chimneys, and we use per-panel optimisers only where shade justifies the extra cost.
Export payments
Electricity you don't use goes to the grid, and your supplier pays for it under the Smart Export Guarantee. You need an MCS certificate for the installation to qualify, which is why we only fit MCS-certified systems.
Rates vary a lot between suppliers and tariffs. We'll point you at the best current options once your system is in.
Money
What's included and what it costs
0% VAT until March 2027
Solar panels, batteries and their installation are zero-rated for homes in Great Britain until 31 March 2027, after which the rate is due to return to 5%.
Clear quote
Panels, inverter, mounting, scaffolding, electrical work, DNO notification and MCS paperwork, itemised. No "from" prices that grow on the day.
Warranties that mean something
Manufacturer warranties on panels and inverters, plus our workmanship warranty, all in writing and backed by the consumer code we're registered with.
Guide prices for typical system sizes will be published here once our rates are finalised.
Planning
Planning and conservation areas
Most roof-mounted solar on a house is permitted development, as long as the panels don't stick out more than 200mm from the roof surface and the house isn't listed. Flat-roof and ground-mounted systems have their own limits.
The Wirral has 26 conservation areas, including Caldy, Oxton Village, West Kirby, Meols Drive, The King's Gap, Heswall Lower Village and Port Sunlight Village. In a conservation area, panels on a wall or roof slope that faces the road can need permission, and Port Sunlight has tighter controls. We check your address before we design.
Scaffolding and access
Nearly every roof install needs scaffolding, and it's in the quote. Terraced houses, shared access and conservatories under the roof edge all affect it, so tell us about them early.
FAQ
Solar questions
How many panels will I need?
It depends on your roof and how much electricity you use. A typical 3-bed home on the Wirral might take 8 to 12 panels, around 3.5 to 5 kW. We size from your actual bills, not a rule of thumb.
What happens on a cloudy day?
Panels still generate in daylight, just less. Over a year, the Wirral's generation is lower than the south of England but still worthwhile, and a battery smooths the difference between sunny and dull days.
Will my roof take it?
We check the roof structure, covering and condition at the survey. Panels add weight, so an older roof or one that needs work should be sorted first. We'll tell you if we think it's not suitable.
What do I get paid for export?
Under the Smart Export Guarantee, your supplier pays you for electricity you send to the grid. Rates vary a lot between suppliers and tariffs, so we'll point you at the best current options once the system is in.

What happens next
- We look at your roof on satellite imagery and your usage, and give you a rough system size and price.
- We visit to check the roof, loft, fuse board and where a battery would go.
- You get a written design and quote with the expected generation and savings, and the MCS paperwork.
